Hi,
Thanks for the article, wasn't sure what had changed (except the kernel version, of course).

Do you know why there is such a reduction in the size? between b2 and b2.1.

Also, would it be possible to provide torrents of b2.1? The jigdo thing is so annoying! (Even a .zsync would do)

I tried RHEL6 Beta2 on a HP Blade server and the installation failed at different steps.
1. Sometimes the hard disk is not detected
2. Sometimes the installation is hang at Storage device type page

Tried installation with basic video driver too. But is not helpful

I did not found any setroubleshootd init-script.
I assume that the selinux is not well implemented yet.

In meantime I installed it on ESX4. It is obviously a bug in one of the KVM related paravirt drivers.

From a server issue it looks good, but the use of the nouveau driver is a pain and has not been documented or implemented proprly, especially regarding multiple displays. we don't use 3d but we do have systems with more than 2 displas in a single space. The noueau driver does not handle this neither do the tools to configure nouveau

Dear Dean,

Thanks a lot for your input. Perl 5.10 vs. 5.12, PHP 4.x vs 5.x vs. 5.1.x vs. 5.2.x, Python 2.2 vs 2.4 etc... Almost all scripting languages are insane! The problem of perl is that there a load of system dependencies and they could not switch to a higher version easily. The same applies to Python.

Dependencies such as this are very annoying. Please post the main differences between Perl 5.10 and Perl 5.12 to teach the readers of this blof about it.

Thanks,

Luc

Dear Mark,

It is even more strange: After setting the JVM Option, I was able to select ANY language, Russian, French, whatever, but NOT English. As soon as I choose English, the UI went to German. Please let me know if I can help debugging the stuff..

We have requested perl 5.12. The rhel6 is planned to include the new 2 year old and no longer maintained perl 5.10.

Comments about RHEL6 being useless as a webserver in two years are already true for those of us running perl and mod_perl.

Perl may be less fashionable than Python and Ruby, but many companies (like my day job) have huge infrastructures built in perl. Amazon for example - perl.

Its disappointing that RH have forsaken unix's old friend.
