If you need a new Satellite certificate, you can download (generate) it by yourself on the RHN site (registered satellite), so no ticket is required any longer, as far as you have only one Satellite installation.

hi there.
I am attempting to use usb stick with rtl2832u under Fedora 17.

[root@K8 yum]# uname -a
Linux K8.home 3.7.9-104.fc17.x86_64 #1 SMP Sun Feb 24 19:19:12 UTC 2013 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Upon insertion into USB slot stick seems to be detected ok.
/var/log/messages:

Inded it seems to succeed in inserting required kernel modules:

[root@K8 yum]# lsmod
Module Size Used by
e4000 13645 1

rtl2830 18643 1 dvb_usb_rtl28xxu
dvb_usb_v2 35514 1 dvb_usb_rtl28xxu
dvb_core 114833 3 rtl2830,rtl2832,dvb_usb_v2
...

When I do
scandvb /usr/share/dvb/dvb-t/uk-BlackHill -o zap >> ~/.mplayer/channels.conf

tuning fails with no channels detected

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Two things to note:
1) You listed the hbacrule-add line twice above.
2) It is best never to mention adding srchost rules to HBAC. It does not really work, due to issues with the way PAM fails to the properly verify where the connection is coming from. This is a flaw in the underlying subsystems, not the fault of FreeIPA. With this in mind, SSSD (the client side daemon that performs the authorization checks) does not support srchost checking by default. It can be added by specifying an option in sssd.conf. (The other reason for disabling it by default is performance)

...and let's assume that when you add a new mirror, it doesn't all come apart at the seams, requiring re-adding every host to every hostgroup.

Oh wait, that's not a reasonable expectation.

Well, nobody that installs a Fedora or RHEL breed distro uses IDE or SCSI emulation. Arbitrary MAC address are generally not the best idea, as it can cause conflicts (I know, there are some use cases when using closed source software with the license bound to the MAC).

This procedure works fine with Fedora 13+ and EL 5.4+

The reason why I try to realize as much as possible with Cobbler snippets is its simplicity.

I'm pretty sure this won't work in the general case of a KVM guest that has emulated (eg. IDE or SCSI) disks, since that would use /dev/sda. Nor for a KVM guest that uses modern virtio-scsi (/dev/sda too). Nor a KVM guest that has an arbitrary MAC address.

Why not just probe /dev/sda, /dev/vda and /dev/xvda in turn until you find one which exists?
